He was born in the Cuban province of Camagüey on December 12th, the day of the Mexican national patron saint, the Virgen of Guadalupe. He arrived in Mexico looking for a better place to work and develop his career on December 17, 1994, on the day of San Lázaro, one of the greatest deities of Cuban santeria (Afro-Cuban religion) and patron of the sick. He left behind parents, young wife and child. During this last year he has been working on his first commercial exhibition of 10 engravings and 12 paintings, which opened January, 1996, at the Galería Nina Menocal.

Bejarano began his career in engraving by accident. After 4 years of studying painting he got in the wrong line... and passed the engravings exam instead. His friends helped him with the techniques until Bejarano started winning all the national prizes. He has now won one of the most important international prizes, the XI San Juan Biennial Prize for Latin American and Caribbean Engravings, Puerto Rico,1995.

His first exhibition outsideo of the state museums and officialspaces, was called Voluntad de Silencio (A will for silence) and has to do with his very mystical and intimate relationship with his wife, his orthodox beliefs and his need for certain values, all of which he situates inside the Cuban social and cultural phenomenon -through the yarey peasant hat, the guayabera shirt, the bohío hut, the palm tree and the figure of Independence apostle José Martí. It is from his personal poetic experiences that Bejarano finally reaches a universal language.

Bejarano's engravings are completely autonomous of his paintings. The latter are the new product of this year's work while alone in Monterrey. Another Bejarano lives with him in his paintings, more abstract, more contemporary, more free.

Él nació en la provincia cubana de Camagüey el 12 de diciembre, el día del santo del patrocinador nacional mexicano, el Virgen de Guadalupe. Él llegó a México que busca un lugar bueno para trabajar y desarrollar su carrera el 17 de diciembre de 1994, en el día de San Lázaro, uno de las más grandes deidades de santeria cubano (la religión afrocubana) y patrocinador del enfermo. Él dejó atrás a los padres, esposa joven y niño. Durante este último año él ha estado trabajando en su primera exhibición comercial de 10 grabados y 12 pinturas que abrieron enero 1996, al Galería Nina Menocal.

Bejarano empezó su carrera grabando por el accidente. Después de 4 años de estudiar la pintura él entró la línea mala... y pasó el examen de los grabados en cambio. Sus amigos lo ayudaron con las técnicas hasta que Bejarano empezara la ganancias todos los premios nacionales. Él ha ganado uno de los premios internacionales más importantes ahora, el XI San Juan el Premio Bienal para latinoamericano y Grabados de Caribe, Puerto Rico,1995.

Sus primeros outsideo de la exhibición de los museos estatales y officialspaces, se llamó Voluntad de Silencio (UN testamento para el silencio) y tiene que hacer con toda seguridad con su relación muy mística y íntima con su esposa, sus creencias ortodoxas y su necesidad valores todos de los cuales él sitúa dentro del cubano el fenómeno social y cultural -through el yarey el sombrero campesino, la camisa del guayabera, la choza del bohío, el árbol de la palma y la figura de apóstol de Independencia José Martí. Es de sus experiencias poéticas personales que Bejarano alcanza un idioma universal finalmente.

Los grabados de Bejarano son completamente autónomos de sus pinturas. El último es el nuevo producto del trabajo de este año mientras exclusivamente en Monterrey. Otro Bejarano vive con él en sus pinturas, más resuma, más contemporáneo, más gratuitamente.
